1. First study of dust evolution in spectroscopically confirmed
quiescent galaxies at high-z
Quantifying changes in galaxies' interstellar medium (ISM) abundance after quenching star formation is a crucial aspect of galaxy evolution, but it is poorly constrained beyond the local universe.
In Donevski et al. (2023, A&A, in press.) we estimated, for the first time, how the dust, metals and stars co-evolve in quiescent galaxies. By analysing more than 500 massive galaxies in the COSMOS field, our team unveiled the strong evidence for the prolonged dust growth after the quenching of star formation in galaxies.
